8 Jan 2002
On 8th January 2002, the circuit at Montmelo hosted the first day’s testing of the season. Taking to the track for Scuderia Ferrari were test drivers Luca Badoer and Luciano Burti, both at the wheel of an F2001, the car with which Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello had done the championship double the previous year.
That day also marked Burti’s debut as an official test driver: the Brazilian, who had not driven a Formula 1 car since his accident at Spa on 2nd September 2001, completed 62 laps, the quickest in a time of 1.29.624. Badoer did better with a best time of 1.29.131 from 52 laps completed.
