Silverstone, 5 July – After coming second in Monaco, Raffaele Marciello was back on the podium at the end of today’s GP2 race at Silverstone circuit, with another second place in the fifth round of the season. Marciello started from third on the grid, from where he got a good start that took him up behind leader Rio Haryanto going into the first corner. Not much happened during the race with the top three remaining unchanged throughout. Marciello made steady progress over the weekend in England, starting with an eighth place in qualifying and a sixth place finish in Race 1. Thanks to these results at Silverstone, the Ferrari Driver Academy youngster moves up to sixth in the championship with ten of twenty races run.
“We made a step forward on the technical front this weekend,” commented Marciello at the end of the race. “Already in Race 1 our performance was good and we managed to take sixth place despite a problem at the pit stop. The second race began very well, thanks to a good start which allowed me to make up a place. I tried to get by Haryanto, but we had the same pace and I never managed to get close enough to attack him. We’re at the mid-point of the championship and myself and the team will be doing our utmost to make further progress.”
