Spa-Francorchamps, 24 August –Raffaele Marciello fared less well in the second GP2 race at Spa, the day after he took his first win in the series. This morning, the Racing Engineering driver was involved in a collision on the opening lap, under braking for Les Combes and had to fight his way back through the field, eventually ending up fourteenth.
“I didn’t get the best of starts,” commented Raffaele. “But after coming out of Eau Rouge with good speed, I made up two places. Coming into the braking zone for Les Combes, I went for the inside line, but Markelov closed the door, ignoring the fact I was there and the collision was inevitable. I spun and rejoined last, moving up to fourteenth, lapping faster than the drivers who were in the lead group. It’s a shame I didn’t score any more points this weekend, as today, both myself and the team did the maximum without making any mistakes. So now we are just looking ahead to Monza.”
