FDA – Fifth row for Marciello

Sakhir, 4 April – The tenth season of GP2 got underway today at the Al Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. Qualifying was run under floodlights tonight at the Arab track and was dominated by Englishman Jolyon Palmer (1.38.865.) Raffaele Marciello, at the wheel of one of the two cars entered by the Spanish team, Racing Engineering, ended up ninth fastest in 1.39.449.

“After being third fastest in free practice, I was hoping to do better than this in qualifying,” said the Ferrari Driver Academy youngster. “But on my quick lap, I made a mistake under braking, which cost me a few tenths of a second. Pole was not within our grasp, but I could have been a few places higher up the order. In tomorrow’s race, it will be very important to get a good start and avoid any trouble at the first corner. I am counting on a good race pace given the good times in pre-championship testing.”

The first race of the season gets underway over 32 laps tomorrow at 13h10 local time.
