Maranello, 9 May – One month on from the opening round of the season, the GP2 series is back in action at the Catalunya circuit, on the outskirts of Barcelona today, with free practice and qualifying. In the morning, Raffaele Marciello was down in 24th place, but he turned things around in qualifying, setting the fourth fastest time at the wheel of his Racing Engineering car. “I had never driven anything as quick as a GP2 car at this track before,” commented the Ferrari Driver Academy student. “In free practice I had to find the right reference points corner by corner. The lap times were not that good, but I knew the potential was there, as I later showed in qualifying. I improved lap after lap, setting my best time (1.29.650) on the last set of tyres available. Tomorrow it will be vital to get a good start, because in the simulations, my race pace is very good.” For the first race of the weekend here in Spain, to be run over 37 laps, starting from pole will be the Monegasque driver Stephane Richelmi, who did a 1.29.293.
Like fellow FDA student Raffaele Marciello, Antonio Fuoco also had his 2015 plans confirmed today, with the announcement that he will make his GP3…
It has been announced today that Raffaele Marciello will race in GP2 with the Trident team in 2015.
