Lorenzo Sassi was born in Florence on 10 August 1967. After graduating in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florence in 1993, he did a PhD in Automobile Engineering – Engine Thermo-fluid dynamics.
From 1995 to 1997, he worked at the FIAT Research Centre in Orbassano (Turin.)
He joined the Ferrari Gestione Sportiva in January 1998 as Head of the Engine Fluid Dynamics team. Next he was in charge of Engine Reliability from 2002 to 2003 and was Head of the Engine and Testing team, responsible for the performance and reliability of the Formula 1 engines, from December 2003 to 2006.
From 2006 he was Head of Engine Design and Testing, before switching to the road car side, initially as Head of Engine Projects from 2010 to mid 2014, before heading up the Engine and Concept Design department.
As of today, Sassi takes on the role of Chief Designer of the Power Unit.
Lorenzo Sassi splits his time between Maranello and Florence. He is married to Elisa and has two children, Michele and Carolina.
In his spare time he takes part in triathlons and indulges his love of the cinema.
