On 20th January 2010, Valentino Rossi took part in his sixth and final test at the wheel of a Ferrari Formula 1 car, at the Catalunya Circuit, on the outskirts of Barcelona. After running at Fiorano, Valencia and Mugello, the nine times motorcycle world champion, took to the Catalan track at the wheel of an F2008. Valentino drove two days, covering over 600 kilometres, some of them in the wet. His best time was a truly respectable 1.21.900, recorded right at the end. “We reserved the final 45 minutes to try a ‘time attack’ with low fuel and new tyres,” said the rider from Tavullia. “I’d have signed in blood to do a time like that. I thank Ferrari, especially Domenicali and Montezemolo, who gave me this present.
“We tried different set-ups and that produced a big improvement,” commented Ferrari’s Luca Baldisserri, assigned to the test as a tutor. “That means the driver is a quick learner and has the potential to improve.”
