19 Apr 1954
On 19th April 1954, Goodwood circuit hosted the sixth running of the Lavant Cup. A sprint race over seven laps, it was part of a day of races for various categories.
As it took place on the same day as the Pau Grand Prix, the entry list was sparse and restricted to British drivers only. There was one Ferrari on the grid, the number 17 Scuderia Ambrosiana, in the hands of Reg Parnell. His main rival was fellow countryman Roy Salvadori in a Maserati 250F run by Gilby Engineering. It was a close fight between the two men right to the end with Parnell managing to beat Salvadori by just six tenths of a second.
Third was Kenneth McAlpine in a Connaught, who crossed the line 30 seconds down.
