29 Jun 1997
On 29th June 1997, the French Grand Prix was held at Magny Cours. In qualifying, Michael Schumacher took pole in the Ferrari F310 B, two tenths ahead of fellow countryman Heinz-Harald Frentzen in the Williams. In the other Ferrari, Eddie Irvine was fifth, on row 3.
At the start, Schumacher got away best of all, immediately pulling out a lead. Frentzen was second, but the best scrap was the won for third place between Irvine and Jacques Villeneuve in the other Williams.
The Northern Irishman and the Canadian would fight it out to the very last corner, with Villeneuve coming off worst, spinning and having to settle for fourth place. This was Ferrari’s 111th win, the 25th for Schumacher.
