For 13 years, from 2000 to 2013, Scuderia Ferrari had at least one Brazilian driver in the team, but there was a time when there were no less three drivers from the land of the green and gold flag in the Maranello court. Apart from Rubens Barrichello, who was a race driver from 2000 to 2005 and Felipe Massa, first as a test driver in 2003 and then a race driver from 2006 to 2013, there was also Luciano Burti, who, on the 16th November 2001 was called up to support Luca Badoer in the tough role of test driver.
Burti had just suffered a serious accident at Spa, when his Prost car crashed heavily into the barriers at Blanchimont: the Brazilian escaped unscathed but it was a very scary moment. Burti worked with the Scuderia up to 2004 before quitting Formula 1 for good as a driver. He came back as a valued commentator for Rede Globo, the Formula 1 host broadcaster in Brazil.
