Pirelli returns to F1

19 Nov 2010

On 19th November 2010, the Yas Marina circuit was the venue for the first test of with Pirelli tyres, prior to the company becoming Formula 1’s sole supplier as from 2011. The first Ferrari man to try the products from the Milan-based company was Felipe Massa, who did 94 laps, the quickest in a time of 1.40.170.

“It was a positive day to begin to understand how the Pirelli tyres behave,” commented Felipe at the end of the session. “I felt comfortable with them right from the start and there were no unpleasant surprises. We tried two types and gathered a lot of data that will be useful to the Italian company to further develop the tyres prior to the start of the 2011 season. On the hards, there were some difficulties over a long run, while the softs worked well on both the first lap and after a lot of running.”

“I want to take this opportunity to welcome Pirelli back to Formula 1,” said Stefano Domenicali back in Maranello. “It’s nice to see two symbols of Italian excellence together on track. I am sure that Pirelli’s professionalism and technical research will bring a lot to our sport.”
